American Concrete Institute and ICC-ES Enter Memorandum of Understanding in Support of Carbon Neutrality

Cooperation coordinates efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete

Brea, CA – ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES), the premier testing, inspection and certification agency in North America, and American Concrete Institute (ACI), a leading authority on concrete materials, design, and construction, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in which both parties agree to effectively collaborate efforts on issues related to carbon-neutral concrete.

The partnership will include ICC-ES and ACI Center NEU working together in supporting carbon-neutral concrete technologies, developing and advocating the adoption of codes and standards, and development of Acceptance Criteria (AC) to promote the use of carbon-neutral concrete.

“ICC-ES is uniquely positioned to develop ACs for new materials, technologies and processes for concrete products which reduce the carbon footprint of concrete construction,” said ICC-ES President Shahin Moinian, P.E. “We are honored to be an Allied Organization of NEU and advance the sustainability efforts of the built industry.”

“It is exciting to have ICC-ES as an Allied Organization of NEU because we foresee a potential need for evaluation service reports for select innovative technologies that will be brought to NEU for assessment and validation,” said ACI President Dr. Charles Nmai, PE, M.ASCE, FACI. “This collaboration will help expedite the development of evaluation criteria and subsequent validation tests of products, processes, design methodologies that facilitate the use of low- and carbon-neutral-concrete.”

ACI is a standards developing organization with over 125 technical committees that continually update its consensus information.
